"Praise be to Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, Who made the angels messengers with wings — two, three, and four." — Surah Fatir (35:1)

📖 Introduction: The Unseen Creation

Angels, known as Malaikah in Arabic, are creations of Allah made from light. They are honored servants of Allah who carry out His commands without question or deviation. Belief in angels is the second pillar of Iman, and it is obligatory for every Muslim to believe in them.

The Quran states: "Praise be to Allah, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, Who made the angels messengers with wings — two, three, and four. He increases in creation what He wills. Indeed, Allah is over all things competent." (Surah Fatir 35:1)

✨ The Creation of Angels

Angels were created from light, unlike humans who were created from clay and jinn from fire. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from smokeless fire, and Adam was created from what has been described to you." (Sahih Muslim)

Angels are made from divine light, pure and radiant.

Angels are not male or female. They are beyond human categorization.

Constant Worship

They never eat, sleep, or get tired. They are in constant worship of Allah.

📜 Jibreel (Gabriel) — The Chief Messenger

Jibreel is the greatest of all angels. He is the angel of revelation, responsible for conveying Allah's message to the prophets. He brought the Quran to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ over a period of 23 years.

"Say, Whoever is an enemy to Jibreel — for he brought it down to your heart by permission of Allah." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:97)

🌧️ Mikaeel (Michael) — The Provider

Mikaeel is responsible for rain and provision. He oversees the distribution of sustenance and blessings on earth.

The Quran mentions him alongside Jibreel: "Whoever is an enemy to Allah and His angels and His messengers and Jibreel and Mikaeel — then indeed, Allah is an enemy to the disbelievers." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:98)

📯 Israfil — The Trumpeter

Israfil is the angel who will blow the Trumpet on the Day of Judgment, signaling the end of the world and the resurrection.

"And the Horn will be blown, and whoever is in the heavens and whoever is on the earth will fall dead except whom Allah wills." (Surah Az-Zumar 39:68)

💀 Azrael — The Angel of Death

Azrael is the angel responsible for taking the souls of people at the time of death. He is also known as Malak al-Mawt.

The Quran says: "The Angel of Death, who is in charge of you, will take your souls. Then you will be returned to your Lord." (Surah As-Sajdah 32:11)

✍️ Raqib and Atid — The Recording Angels

These two angels are assigned to every person. One records good deeds and the other records bad deeds. They are known as the Kiraman Katibin (Noble Recorders).

Records good deeds on the right side.

Records bad deeds on the left side.

"When the two receivers receive, seated on the right and on the left. He does not utter a word except that with him is an observer prepared." (Surah Qaf 50:17-18)

⚰️ Munkar and Nakir — The Questioners in the Grave

These angels question the deceased in the grave about their faith: "Who is your Lord? What is your religion? Who is your Prophet?"

The Prophet ﷺ said: "When the deceased is placed in the grave, two angels, Munkar and Nakir, come to him and ask him." (Jami al-Tirmidhi)

The guardian of Paradise. He welcomes the believers who enter Jannah.

Malik

The chief guardian of Hellfire. He is mentioned in the Quran as the keeper of Jahannam.

"And they will call out, 'O Malik, let your Lord put an end to us!' He will say, 'Indeed, you will remain.'" (Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:77)

  • Hamalat al-Arsh: The angels who carry the Throne of Allah.
  • Angels of Protection: Angels who guard and protect humans.
